His strategic situation as forced step towards the south favored his military character, existing an important one castle in the Middle Age, where today the chapel is of Our Lady of the Castle, and an imposing bridge survives medieval on the river Esca. Inside the Church of San Pedro preserves the old organ of the Monastery of Leyre.
Just to the south of the Ist populate of it places the Foz de Burgui, where the river Esca boxes between saws of Illón and of the Rock, in whose top places the chapel of Virgin of the Rock. Also very close, in direction of Lumbier it places the Foz de Arbayún.
Burgui had an important role in the epoch of the development maderera of the forests of the vale of Roncal by means of the rafts, having the Museum of the Raft and celebrating the rememoración of this activity of fluvial transport of trunks in the month of April. (source wikipedia)
